Westella Vineyard

Westella Vineyard is a small, family-run cellar door on the western bank of the Tamar River in Rowella, ten acres given over to Pinot Noir. It is one of the more genuinely dog-friendly cellar doors in the valley, with two resident dogs, Lily and Willow, often on greeting duty at the door.

Dog access. Dogs are welcome both inside the cellar door and in the outdoor garden area, which is unusual for a working winery. The indoor space has a fireplace, useful on the cooler Tamar Valley days. Keep dogs under control around the resident dogs and other visitors, and bring your own water bowl, since the focus here is wine service rather than dog amenities.

Known for. Pinot Noir is the specialty, including sparkling and rose styles, alongside a menu of Tasmanian produce such as local cheese and smoked meats. Staff are consistently described as warm and welcoming.

Getting there. The vineyard is at 114 Westwoods Rd, Rowella, on the West Tamar tourist route, a scenic drive from Launceston. On-site parking is easy and close to the door.

Nearby with the dogs. Holm Oak Vineyards and Iron Pot Bay Vineyard are both a short drive away on West Bay Road for a winery-hopping day, and Grindelwald Swiss Village, about fifteen minutes back towards Launceston, has walking paths and dog-friendly outdoor seating.

Go on a quiet weekday afternoon if you want the fire and a table to yourselves. Weekends and the run-up to closing (the cellar door shuts for all of July) get busier, so call ahead if you are travelling any distance.
