Vamp by Lisa McGuigan at 2198 Broke Road is the most theatrical cellar door in Pokolbin: a dark, glamorous wine room of black velvet and chandeliers, pouring boutique small-batch Shiraz and Chardonnay. It is also one of the most dog-generous, with well-behaved dogs allowed right inside the tasting lounge rather than parked on the deck.

Where the dog goes. Dogs are welcome inside the styled tasting lounge and out on the deck. Staff are known for being genuinely good with dogs, so you can do the full moody-interior experience with the dog beside you, weather no object.

The rules. Lead on and supervised. The interior is dark and dressed up with furnishings, so a dog that settles cleanly is essential here, more than at a rustic shed. Mind other guests and any resident pets on arrival.

What is there. The draw is the design-led, intimate tasting, the gothic styling and Lisa McGuigan's boutique range. It is built as an experience, so it rewards a sit-down tasting rather than a quick pour.

Getting there. 2198 Broke Road, with on-site parking, sitting on the Broke Road run close to other major Pokolbin cellar doors.

When to go. The dim, moody room shows best as a sit-down tasting, so book ahead and pick a quieter slot. Hungerford Hill further along Broke Road is a dog-friendly follow-up.
