Hungerford Hill

Hungerford Hill sits on the corner of Broke Road and Gillards Road at 2450 Broke Road, a boutique estate with a modern cellar door, an outdoor patio over the vines and the two-hatted MUSE Restaurant on site. It works equally well as a quick tasting stop or the anchor for a long afternoon, and dogs are part of the plan either way.

The dog setup

Dogs on leads are welcome across the outdoor areas: the patio, the lawns and the grounds around the building. That is where you do your tasting, and it is a comfortable spot in most weather thanks to the covered sections. Water bowls are usually provided, though a backup bowl in the car costs nothing. The indoor cellar door and MUSE are people-only spaces, so if the weather turns really foul, either take turns inside or ring ahead and ask staff how they can seat you before you commit. A well-behaved dog goes a long way here; mention the dog when you book and the team will point you to the right table.

Max: the patio tables looking over the vines are the pick. Good shade, room for the dog to settle, and you can taste without anyone stepping over a lead.

Worth knowing

The cellar door runs daily from 10am to 5pm, which makes it an easy first or last stop on a Pokolbin loop. The wines lean boutique and regional, with the moscato and food-pairing flights coming up often in visitor talk, and staff are happy to build a tasting around what you like. MUSE Restaurant is on the same site but books out well ahead and keeps its own hours, mostly dinner service Wednesday to Saturday plus Saturday lunch, so treat it as a separate booking rather than a walk-in.

Getting there and parking

The estate is about ten minutes from Cessnock on the Broke Road strip, with free on-site parking right by the cellar door. The walk from car park to patio is short and level, so no drama with a dog in tow. Arrive early on weekends if you want a corner table with the most room.

Pair it with

You are in the heart of the Broke Road cluster: Brokenwood Wines is a few minutes up McDonalds Road, and Tulloch Wines is close by for a semillon-focused second stop. Both are easy to work into the same drive.
