Moorooduc Estate

Moorooduc Estate is a family run boutique winery on Derril Road on the Mornington Peninsula, best known for estate grown Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The cellar door is genuinely dog friendly: leashed dogs are welcome inside at the tasting bench as well as out in the courtyard, so nobody waits in the car.

The dog setup

Well behaved dogs on lead are welcome in the cellar door and the outdoor courtyard, with water bowls available on site. The one thing to mind is Reg, the resident peacock, who does not appreciate being chased. Keep the lead short when you move between car park, courtyard and cellar door, and the visit stays calm for everyone, Reg included.

The vibe

Tastings here are intimate and unhurried, run by the family that grows and makes the wine, and the staff know the label's history inside out. There is no restaurant on site; this is a tasting stop rather than a long lunch, though freshly baked sourdough sometimes appears on weekends. The cellar door is compact, so groups of six or more should book ahead. It suits dogs who are comfortable indoors and settled around strangers.

Getting there and parking

The address is 501 Derril Road, easily reached from Peninsula Link by exiting at Moorooduc Road. Parking sits near the cellar door. Hours run 10am to 5pm seven days, but confirm before a special trip.

Max: Reg the peacock has right of way here. Keep the lead short near the courtyard and there will be no drama.

Make a day of it

For a sit-down meal with the dog afterwards, Barmah Park Restaurant and Cellar Door serves lunch on a deck over the vines, and Stumpy Gully Vineyard and Restaurant takes a relaxed approach to dogs on its grounds. For coffee, Mustard Moorooduc is close by.
