Anderson Hill Cellar Door Restaurant occupies a ridge-top site at 407 Croft Road in Lenswood, about 40 to 50 minutes from Adelaide's CBD, with panoramic views over the northern Adelaide Hills. It is a cool-climate, five-star rated winery that actively welcomes visiting dogs alongside its resident winery dogs.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck and lawn areas, which happen to have the best valley outlook. Pet dogs are not permitted inside the main restaurant building, so plan around an outdoor table. Keep yours on a leash given the open vineyard surrounds and the resident dogs on site, and carry your own water bowl as a courtesy.

The kitchen pairs the estate's cool-climate wines with wood-fired pizzas, gourmet share plates and a seasonal menu with gluten-free options; the arancini balls, corn ribs and cheese platters come up again and again. It trades Friday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm and also hosts weddings, so weekends can be busy. Call ahead to confirm an outdoor table.

Getting there

On-site parking is available at the cellar door. The Adelaide Hills roads up through Lenswood are scenic but winding, so take the bends gently if your dog is a nervous passenger.

Extend the crawl with the Greenhill Wines Cellar Door and Restaurant in Summertown, or stop at Ashton Hills Vineyard, where leashed dogs are welcomed in the garden setting.
