Squitchy Lane Vineyard

Squitchy Lane Vineyard is a boutique cellar door in Gruyere, set in a renovated tractor shed with veranda views over the vines, and it is proudly dog-friendly rather than dogs-on-the-lawn-only.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the cellar door itself, including the veranda where you can sit for a tasting or a cheese and charcuterie board looking out over the vineyard. There is also a lawn and garden area around the cellar door suited to a picnic-style visit. Keep dogs on a leash so they don't wander into the vineyard rows or bother other guests. Water bowls are often available, but bring your own bowl and treats to be sure. Book ahead and mention you are bringing a dog, since seating is limited.

Known for. Small-batch, handcrafted wines including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, plus cheese boards on the veranda. It is a quieter, more personal alternative to the larger Yarra Valley cellar doors. Open Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm, with some public holiday Mondays, though it is worth checking current hours before visiting.

Getting there and parking. Squitchy Lane is at 98-100 Quayle Road, Gruyere, about an hour from Melbourne's CBD. Onsite parking is ample, including a concrete accessible space near the entrance.

Nearby with the dogs. Dominique Portet Winery, a short drive away, has a dog-friendly courtyard. Warramate Hills Nature Conservation Reserve offers scenic walking trails for leashed dogs, and Healesville township, 10 to 15 minutes away, has dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating.
