LS Merchants

LS Merchants is a relaxed, unpretentious cellar door at 163 Treeton Road North in Cowaramup, working out of a rustic vineyard setting slightly off Caves Road. It is an easy stop with a dog: the whole feel is low-key and casual, dogs are genuinely welcome, and Flash, the resident winery dog, may wander over to say hello.

Dogs on a lead are welcome both in the outdoor grassed seating and inside the cellar door, which keeps the plan alive on a cold or wet Margaret River day. Water bowls are often put out for four-legged guests, though bring your own as a fallback. Keep your dog leashed and settled through the tasting; the room is small and the sessions are conversational.

Worth knowing

This is a minimal-intervention producer, so the tasting list runs wider than the regional classics: vermentino and touriga nacional sit alongside chardonnay, with occasional limited and back-vintage releases. Tastings are friendly and unfussy, and you can bring your own picnic to have on the grounds. Doors open daily from 10:30am to 4:30pm, and the fireplace gets a workout in the cooler months.

Max: bring a picnic, keep the lead on, and let the dog sprawl on the grass while you work through the alternative varietals.

From Caves Road, turn into Treeton Road North and follow it to number 163; the cellar door sits in a quiet rural pocket a few minutes from the Cowaramup townsite. Parking is free and on site, right by the door.
