Main & Cherry Cellar Door sits on Grants Gully Road in Chandlers Hill, a family-owned spot with views over the vines toward Gulf St Vincent. Dogs are welcome on the large undercover deck and the lawns, on lead, so a wine flight and a platter never means leaving the dog in the car.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the undercover deck and the sprawling lawn where the lawn games are set up, and must stay leashed throughout, including on the grass. Indoors is restaurant seating and not dog territory, as is standard. Water bowls are usually out, but a backup bowl helps on a busy day.

It suits dogs that will settle on a lead while you eat, rather than dogs that need an off-lead run. If yours falls into the second camp, burn the energy off beforehand somewhere with a fence.

The vibe

The line-up leans boutique Mediterranean varieties: Fiano, Grenache and Shiraz, poured as flights, with tapas-style sharing plates and a prosecco that regulars call out. The modern space opened in 2022 and the view over the vines to the coast is the drawcard. Weekends bring crowds and lawn games; weekdays are calmer if you want the lawn to yourselves.

Pepsi: book ahead for weekend deck seating. Turning up at 1pm on a Saturday with a dog and no booking is how you end up doing a takeaway pour standing up.

Getting there

The address is 60 Grants Gully Road, Chandlers Hill, about 30 to 40 minutes from the Adelaide CBD in the northern pocket of McLaren Vale wine country, with on-site parking. It opens 10am to 5pm, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Pair it with

Watkins Cellar Door is directly across the road and also welcomes leashed dogs on its terrace, making an easy double stop. For a leg stretch, Minkarra Dog Park in Happy Valley or the Sturt River Linear Park trail are both short drives away.
