Minkarra Dog Park

Minkarra Dog Park in Happy Valley is a fully fenced off lead area on Manning Road, split into large-dog and small/timid-dog sections, with mulch and sand underfoot and double-gate entries so nobody bolts on the way in. It sits inside the wider Minkarra Park reserve, run by the City of Onkaparinga.

The dog setup

Dogs run off lead inside the fenced enclosure and need to be leashed getting to and from it and anywhere else in the wider park, including the southern portion where conservation zones and native wildlife are protected. Dogs are kept away from the children's playground, and owners need to keep their dogs in sight and under control at all times. Waste bags are supplied but the dispensers do run out, so bring your own.

Both sections have shade trees and bench seating, dog water bowls, sandpits, and agility-style features like tunnels and climbing structures. Public toilets sit in the broader park, and there is a playground, skate park and outdoor fitness equipment nearby for the rest of the family. Parking on site is free and wheelchair accessible.

Max: The small-dog section is worth using properly, not just walking through. If your dog is nervous around bigger groups, weekday afternoons are quieter than the Saturday morning rush.

The vibe

This is a well-used southern suburbs dog park with a strong regular crowd, and Saturday mornings are the busiest slot by far. Go early on weekday mornings or Sunday evening for the emptiest runs. The secure fencing and separated zones make it a comfortable choice for nervous dogs, though pick your window if yours needs space.

Getting there and parking

Enter off Manning Road near the corner of Happy Valley Drive. Bus routes along Happy Valley Drive leave a short walk to the gate, and the Minkarra Park Link Path connects the reserve into the surrounding trail network for an easy add-on walk.

Close by with the dogs

The Flagstaff Rotary Walk is an easy extension to the outing if the dogs still have energy, and Yiros Hub in nearby Aberfoyle Park works for a post-park feed. Confirm dog policies directly wherever you stop, as outdoor seating rules vary.
