Flagstaff Rotary Walk

Flagstaff Rotary Walk is an easy-grade bushland trail through Minkarra Park in Happy Valley, with loop options from a 400m accessible circuit up to about 2.3km, taking in river red gums and views over Happy Valley Reservoir.

The walk. Tracks are well-maintained dirt with some boardwalk sections, graded easy, and suit everything from a short leg-stretch to a longer loop through native bushland. The northern section is more heavily forested and generally quieter than the southern end near the skate park.

Leash status. Off-leash walking is allowed in both sections of the park provided your dog is under effective control. Leash up in the car park areas and on the paved playground pathways.

Watch-outs. This is a conservation-value area in parts, so keep dogs from disturbing native wildlife. Snake activity picks up over summer, so keep dogs in sight on warmer days.

What's there. Main parking is off Manning Road near the Minkarra skate park. There's a fenced dog exercise park alongside the off-leash trails, plus a playground and BMX track if you've got kids in tow, public toilets in the southern section, and benches along the main trails. Waste bags are provided but can run out, so carry your own.

Getting there. About 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD by car via Manning Road (south) or Black Road/Reservoir Drive (north). Bus routes run along nearby Happy Valley Drive; check Adelaide Metro for current stops.

Nearby with the dogs. A few cafes sit within a short drive, including options in Flagstaff Hill and on Kenihans Road in Happy Valley. Confirm outdoor dog policies before you go, as they change.

Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons draw the biggest crowds. For a quiet loop, aim for early morning or the middle of a weekday, and take the northern, more forested section if you want space from the playground end.
