Ambrook Wines

Ambrook Wines is a small, family-run boutique vineyard on Benara Road in Caversham, and one of the more genuinely relaxed dog-friendly stops in the Swan Valley: the owners keep dogs of their own, so pets are set up for rather than merely tolerated.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard beneath a vine-covered pergola that gives real shade through the warm months. The seating is outdoor-focused, though the owners are known to flex for well-behaved dogs in adjacent areas.

Water bowls are usually provided, but a collapsible bowl removes any doubt. The resident dogs, Bella and Lunar, may be around the property, so make the first introduction on a lead and let everyone settle.

The vibe

Ambrook pours red, white and rose from its own boutique range, and the kitchen has built a name on generous antipasto platters sized to share between three or four, plus arancini and handmade pizza. Service tends to come straight from the owners, and the rustic decor suits a long, unhurried lunch.

A weekday or early weekend visit gets you the quietest run of the courtyard, which is also the kindest window for a dog still working out the resident cats and dogs of the valley.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door sits at 127 Benara Road, Caversham, an easy run in off West Swan Road with ample free on-site parking. Opening hours vary through the week, so check the venue's Facebook page before a special trip.

Make a day of it

String together a Swan Valley dog day: Riverbank Estate is nearby in Caversham and Ugly Duckling Wines welcomes dogs at its outdoor tables up West Swan Road. Little Duck Creek Reserve in Guildford adds a fenced run to the loop.
