Ambrook Wines is a small, family-run boutique vineyard on Benara Road in Caversham, and it is one of the more genuinely relaxed dog-friendly stops in the Swan Valley. The owners keep resident dogs, so the place is set up for pets rather than merely tolerating them.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard under a vine-covered pergola, which gives useful shade in warm weather. The focus is outdoor seating, though the owners tend to be flexible with well-behaved dogs in adjacent areas. Water bowls are often provided, but pack a collapsible one to be sure. Note the resident dogs, Bella and Lunar, may be around, so a first-time introduction on a lead is sensible.

Good to know. Ambrook pours red, white and rose from its own boutique range, and the kitchen is known for generous antipasto platters (large enough to share between three or four), arancini and pizza. Service is old-fashioned and personal, often straight from the owners.

Getting there. 127 Benara Road, Caversham, with easy access via West Swan Road. There is ample free on-site parking.

A weekday or early weekend visit gives you the quietest run of the courtyard. Good for social dogs who are comfortable meeting resident pets.
