Waterford Foreshore Reserve

Along the Canning River in Waterford, next door to Karawara, the foreshore reserve carries a 2.2 km paved path through birdlife and riverside bush. Dogs are welcome on lead on the path, but some wetland pockets are closed to them.

Leads, wetlands and closed zones

Max: A restoration zone that looks like a shortcut is still a restoration zone. Stay on the path.

The City of South Perth requires dogs on lead along the foreshore paths. Sensitive wetland, restoration and conservation areas on the river flats are off limits, to protect wildlife such as black swans and turtles.

The walk

The route is a sealed dual-use path shared with cyclists, so keep your dog close when bikes come through. River views, waterbirds and native plants line the way.

Water and shade

Water can be hard to find along the sensitive sections, so bring enough for the dog. Trees give partial shade, but some stretches are fully exposed.

Bins are spaced along the wider path network, and there is parking off nearby local roads toward Manning.

When to go

Go early on warm days, before the open stretches heat up. The flat path suits dogs of any age.
