Ducat Park

Shade is the reason to know Ducat Park. This Tweed Heads off-leash area on Ducat Street sits under tall, mature trees that keep the grass cool when more exposed parks around the Tweed are baking.

Off-lead, but unfenced

Tweed Shire Council lists Ducat Park as a dog off-leash area. It is not fully fenced, though the M1 side is screened off.

That makes it best for dogs with reliable recall. If yours tends to wander, keep the lead on.

The walk

A path winds through the park across open grass, so you can do a slow lap while the dog explores. Picnic tables sit under the canopy for a break.

There is no water for dogs on site, so bring your own. Bins are limited too, so be ready to carry bags out.

Parking is informal and roadside, much of it under the trees.

Max: No full fence here. If your dog's recall is patchy, keep the lead on.

Come on hot days, when the canopy earns its keep. It is usually uncrowded, which suits calmer dogs.
