Our Tribe Cafe

Our Tribe Cafe is a family-run cafe at the Kirra end of Coolangatta, a short stroll back from the beachfront on Douglas Street. It opens early, 6am right through to 1:30pm every day of the week, which makes it a natural first stop on a coastal morning walk with the dog. The crowd is local-first rather than tourist-driven, and the setup is deliberately easygoing: dogs are openly welcome at the outdoor tables, and staff are used to regulars rolling in sandy after a beach walk.

The dog setup

Dogs sit in the outdoor seating area, on a lead beside the table. Water bowls are kept on hand for visiting pups, and the footpath position means your dog has room to settle without being wedged between chairs. The one rule worth remembering is the lead: this is a busy strip, especially on weekend mornings, so keep your dog close while you order. As a newer venue, it is worth a quick call ahead on public holidays to confirm seating arrangements, though the dog-friendly outdoor policy has been consistent since opening.

The menu and the vibe

The coffee is roasted by Seven Miles and regularly called out by reviewers as the draw. The kitchen covers breakfast and lunch with a coastal slant: french toast, acai bowls and banana smoothies all feature, and the fruit and nut orchard loaf with butter is a signature on the lighter side. Dietary needs are handled properly rather than as an afterthought, with gluten-free options that are safe for coeliacs, dairy-free choices and a kids menu that includes waffles. Reviewers also mention the decor and the welcoming staff, which fits the family-run feel.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at Shop 1/1 Douglas Street, Coolangatta. Street parking runs along the Kirra beachfront and the surrounding residential streets, and it turns over slowly on summer weekends, so arriving before 8am on a Saturday is the safe play. It is an easy flat walk from Kirra Beach and the marine parade, and the cafe sits directly on the walking route most locals use between Kirra and Coolangatta.

Close by with the dogs

Kirra Beach itself is on-leash territory, and City of Gold Coast rules keep dogs off patrolled swimming areas entirely, including a 200 metre exclusion zone around the flags. For a proper off-leash run, the designated dog beaches are north of here at Tallebudgera and Palm Beach, both a short drive away. Closer in, the Point Danger to Currumbin Alley walk makes a good on-leash warm-up before coffee, and MADE Kirra is an alternative stop on the same stretch. The Atkin Park dog exercise area at Tugun is a few minutes north if your dog needs to burn energy first.

Best used as an early coffee stop on a beach morning: go early, park once, and do the beachfront walk either side of breakfast. On hot days the water bowls help, but a collapsible backup is still smart, and the cafe closes mid-afternoon so it is strictly a daylight venue.
