Atkin Park Dog Exercise Area (Tugun)

Atkin Park in Tugun carries a signed off-leash dog exercise area, a quick walk from the village centre and an easy add-on to a southern Gold Coast beach day. It is an open, unfenced grass space rather than an enclosure, so it works best for dogs whose recall you already trust.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash only inside the signed exercise area and must be leashed again before you leave it. City of Gold Coast rules apply throughout: effective voice control at all times, a handler aged 17 or older present with the dog for the whole visit, waste in the bins provided, and dogs kept out of the adjoining children's playground. The area is large open grass with some shade trees and waste bins, and accessible parking nearby. Because the fencing is not complete, keep new or nervous dogs on a long line until you know how they handle the open edges.

Worth knowing

This is a neighbourhood exercise area rather than a fully serviced dog park, so there is no confirmed water tap: bring your own. Weekday mornings and Saturday evenings are quieter than the Saturday midday rush if your dog prefers fewer playmates. Tugun's cafe strip is a short walk away, with several venues welcoming leashed dogs outdoors.

The park is on Station Street in Tugun, reachable via the Gold Coast Highway or Stewart Road, with on-street parking and accessible spaces nearby. It is close enough to walk from central Tugun, and Translink bus stops along the Gold Coast Highway put it in reach without a car.

The Palm Beach Dog Off-Leach Beach a few minutes north gives the dog sand and surf to finish the outing, the Melaleuca Dog Park adds a fenced alternative, and House of Hubert on Toolona Street is a courtyard coffee stop near the village.
