Cafe Kirra

Cafe Kirra sits on Musgrave Street directly opposite Kirra Beach, and the beachfront setting does most of the talking: ocean views from the outdoor tables, a steady surf soundtrack and the Gold Coast oceanway path running straight past the door. Breakfast is the draw, with eggs benedict, acai bowls and the bacon and egg roll the regular orders, and the coffee holds its own against anything on the southern Gold Coast.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor seating, with communal bench and bar seating along the front that suits a dog tucked at your feet. Water bowls are usually provided and the staff are comfortable around pets, though bring your own bowl on hot days as backup. Keep your dog on a lead and close, because the outdoor area fills quickly on weekend mornings.

Worth knowing

The cafe opens 6:30am to 2pm every day, so it works for the early surf check as well as a late breakfast. The Kirra foreshore opposite is on-lead country: Gold Coast council rules keep dogs off the open beach sand near the flagged zones, so this is a coffee-and-path stop rather than a swim stop. Check signage before any off-lead time.

Getting there and parking

Find it at 1/48 Musgrave Street, Coolangatta. Street parking runs along Musgrave Street but turns over slowly on busy mornings, so arrive early or walk in along the coastal path. Access from the beach road is flat and easy for older dogs.

Close by with the dogs

The Point Danger Lookout to Currumbin Alley walk starts up the road and stretches the morning properly. For a real off-lead beach run, the Palm Beach Dog Off-Leash Beach is a short drive north. Our Tribe Cafe is the other dog-welcoming breakfast bet in Coolangatta.
