Treasury Gardens

On the edge of the CBD at Spring Street, Treasury Gardens packs grand elm and Moreton Bay fig avenues, a duck pond and the John F. Kennedy Memorial into a short, calm walk. A loop through takes about 15 to 25 minutes.

Lead rules

The City of Melbourne requires dogs to be on lead at all times in the gardens. It is a popular spot for city workers and residents, so a short lead keeps things easy on the busier paths.

The walk

Paths are wide and mostly paved, with some gravel sections winding between the lawns and ponds. The old trees give generous shade.

Drinking fountains sit along the main edges and connecting paths, and there are litter bins around the garden borders for bagged waste.

Max: The pond draws ducks, and ducks draw dogs. Take the pond side slowly.

When to go

Early morning and evening are quietest, which suits a dog still learning to walk nicely past people. It works well as a short daily walk for inner-city dogs, rather than a big outing.
