Yarra Park Dog Off Leash Area

Yarra Park wraps around the MCG in East Melbourne, and its off-leash area is about as central as city dog walking gets: broad expanses of grass under big old elms, minutes from two train stations, with the stadium looming over everything. It is an unfenced, open-parkland arrangement, so it suits dogs with decent recall rather than everyone.

The off-leash zone sits mainly on the eastern side of the stadium, running toward Punt Road and down toward Brunton Avenue. It is a wide-open, peaceful scene on weekdays and before lunch on weekends, then a different world when the crowds arrive.

Getting there and parking

Jolimont station sits on the northern edge of the park and Richmond station is a short walk to the southeast, with tram route 70 along Wellington Parade and Brunton Avenue. Public parking inside the park is limited and mostly tied to events, so public transport or a street walk from East Melbourne is the easier approach.
