Tennyson Dunes Discovery Trail

The Tennyson Dunes Discovery Trail winds through a 6,000-year-old coastal dune system in Tennyson, alive with native plants, lizards and birdlife. Dogs can come on a short lead, as long as they stay on the tracks.

Lead rules

The trail runs through the Wara Wayingga-Tennyson Dunes Conservation Reserve, managed by the Department for Environment and Water with support from the City of Charles Sturt. Dogs must be on a lead no longer than 2 metres and kept to the marked tracks.

The walk

The tracks are sand and packed earth, with boardwalk and gravel sections through the dunes. Shade is minimal, just low coastal shrubs and grasses.

There are no bins in the reserve, so carry every bag out. Bring water and a bowl too, and use the street parking around the edges of the reserve.

Max: Two metres of lead, no more, and stay on the track. These dunes are fragile.

Pair it with

The West Lakes Shore Shared Path is close by for a longer walk, and Nosso Café in West Lakes suits a coffee afterwards.

With almost no shade, go early on summer days. Calm dogs that enjoy a sniff will get the most out of it.
