Semapaw Park Fenced Dog Park

Semapaw Park is a fenced, 3-in-1 off-leash dog park inside the wider Semaphore Park Reserve on Military Road, run by the City of Charles Sturt. Its split zones mean boisterous dogs and shy ones do not have to share the same run, which is the reason locals keep coming back.

Leash status

Dogs run off-leash only inside the secure fenced zones, under effective control, which means a recall you can actually rely on. Double-gate airlocks handle arrivals and departures. On the surrounding footpaths, roads and the rest of the reserve, dogs must be on a leash no longer than 2 metres, including within 5 metres of the playground and during organised sport. Pick up after your dog and use the bins provided, and keep dogs inside the fenced zones rather than letting them wander the unfenced reserve.

The dog setup

The layout separates an open grassy run with agility ramps and jumps from a dedicated sensory and sniff zone, so a dog that finds open play full-on can settle at its own pace. Shaded seating covers the owners, and drinking water is on hand for the dogs. The crowd has a reputation for being friendly and well mannered, and the atmosphere is genuinely social. One scheduling note: the council closes the park for maintenance on Wednesday mornings from 7am to 9am, so plan around that.

Worth knowing

The ground can get worn and muddy in the low-lying sections after heavy rain, which matters if your dog treats puddles as a buffet or you care about your car's interior. Weekday mornings are the quietest window; weekends and late weekday afternoons draw the biggest crowds. It is also a good containment yard for recall practice before graduating to the beach.

Getting there

The reserve is at 281 Military Road, Semaphore Park, with on-site parking. Adelaide Metro buses run along Military Road if you are coming without a car. The beach is minutes away, making a park-then-beach morning easy.

Close by with the dogs

Semaphore Park's beach has its own off-leash windows depending on season and time of day, so check the council's beach rules before combining the two, and read the signage at your entry ramp.
