West Lakes Shore Shared Path

Flat, sealed and never far from the water, the West Lakes Shore Shared Path follows the edge of West Lakes past jetties, waterbirds and waterfront homes. Dogs are welcome, on a short lead.

Lead rules

The City of Charles Sturt requires dogs on a lead of 2 metres or less along the West Lakes walking paths and the reserves beside them. Nearby sports reserves such as Jubilee Reserve add restrictions during organised games.

The walk

The path strings together a line of lakeside reserves, including Inlet, Oarsman, Annie Watt and Towpath reserves, so you can walk as far as you like and turn around. It is wide and smooth, fine for prams and wheelchairs.

Some stretches have mature trees and benches, while others sit right on the open lake edge in full sun.

Getting started

Inlet Reserve on Trimmer Parade makes an easy start, with free parking, toilets and a drinking fountain. Bins are spaced along the reserves and street entries.

Pair it with

Grab a coffee at Nosso Café in West Lakes, or give the dog a free run at Semapaw Park Fenced Dog Park.

Walk early or late in summer to avoid the exposed lake edge at midday. The easy surface suits older dogs and anyone after a steady stroll.
