Taroona Foreshore Track

The Hinsby Beach section of the Taroona Foreshore Track runs through coastal bush above the Derwent, with views across to South Arm and Opossum Bay. Dogs walk it on lead, and the beach itself is off limits to them.

Lead rules

Kingborough Council requires dogs on a lead at all times on the foreshore track. Hinsby Beach is a declared no-dog area, so stay on the track rather than heading down to the sand.

If your dog needs a run, Taroona Beach east of the boat ramp allows dogs off lead under effective control.

The walk

Expect a natural earth bush track with sandy patches and short footpath links between streets. Blue gums, sheoaks, blackwoods and banksias give good shade most of the way.

Looking south you can pick out the Alum Cliffs and the Shot Tower.

Getting started

Street parking is available on Hinsby Road and Nubeena Crescent. Bins and dog bags sit at the main entry points, so just bring water for the dog.

The shade makes this a good summer option, and the steady on-lead bush walking suits calm dogs that like to sniff.
