In Good Company

In Good Company is a brunch and dinner venue at 479 Sandy Bay Road, set in a converted former service station with a patio looking toward the River Derwent. Leashed dogs are welcome at the outdoor patio tables, which makes it a rare Sandy Bay option where a morning coffee with the dog can stretch into dinner and a glass of wine later in the week.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the patio tables out front; inside is people-only. The setup is straightforward rather than pampered, with no confirmed water bowls, so ask staff or bring your own. The Sandy Bay Road frontage carries steady foot and car traffic, so keep your dog tucked in close to the table rather than loose on the pavement. It is a popular brunch spot, and weekends fill up, so a dog who settles quietly under the table will have an easier time than one who needs space.

The vibe and the food

Coffee and brunch run the morning, with smoothie bowls and a solid all-day menu, then the venue shifts gears into small plates, wine and cocktails for dinner service later in the week, running into the evening from Thursday through the weekend. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are covered. The drawcard is the water view over the Derwent, and the converted service-station building gives it a modern, energetic feel rather than a quiet suburban one.

Getting there and parking

The venue is on Sandy Bay Road about ten minutes from the Hobart CBD, with street parking along Sandy Bay Road and the surrounding residential streets. It is an easy walk from Battery Point and the Sandy Bay shopping strip.

While you're out there

Nutgrove Beach is a short walk away, with dogs off-lead before 10am and after 6pm in daylight saving, and Errol Flynn Reserve and Short Beach at the city end of Sandy Bay allow off-lead dogs all day. The Taroona Dog Park is a few minutes further south. For another coffee, Brew is close by and CC and Co Cafe sits between here and Battery Point.
