Brew

Brew is a casual coffee stop on the Sandy Bay Road strip south of the Hobart CBD, known locally for solid espresso and a relaxed, walk-up rhythm. It is not a destination cafe in the polished sense; it is the reliable pit stop on the way back from a walk around the bay, with footpath tables where a dog can flop in the sun while you decide between a second coffee and a slice of cake.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs are fine at the outdoor footpath tables, and staff have been known to make room for a small, calm dog near the entry when the weather turns. Indoors is generally not an option for dogs at a food-serving cafe, so treat outside as the default. Bring your own water bowl since one is not guaranteed, though the street-side position makes it an easy ask.

The vibe

Quick and friendly rather than precious. The flat whites and cappuccinos are what regulars order, alongside a solid range of cakes and pastries, the chicken pesto toastie and egg and bacon rolls for something heartier, and a carrot cake that earns its mentions. Hours run 7am to 2pm every day, so it is strictly a breakfast-to-lunch window. Note the carrot cake ordering can be hit and miss on busy mornings.

Getting there and parking

Brew sits on Sandy Bay Road in the shopping strip, with short-term street parking out front that fills fast. The side streets off Sandy Bay Road are the better bet for a spot, and the strip is an easy drive or bus ride from the city.

While you're out there
