OZUS COFFEE

OZUS Coffee is a small, rustic cafe on Hampden Road in the heart of Battery Point, a short walk up the hill from Salamanca Place. There is an open fireplace inside for cold Hobart days and a rear garden courtyard that is the part dog owners care about: dogs are welcomed out there, away from the street traffic.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor area and the rear garden courtyard. You will likely thread through the indoor section to reach the courtyard, so keep your dog leashed and close for that stretch at busy times, or ask staff the easiest way through when you arrive. Staff are known to bring out a water bowl, but it is worth asking rather than assuming.

Pepsi: plan the courtyard route before you are holding two flat whites and a leash in a doorway, trust me on this one.

Worth knowing

The menu leans on breakfast bagels, loaded toasties, the hot honey halloumi version a regular mention, and a chorizo scramble, with quality locally roasted coffee behind the counter and a rotating, locally sourced food list. Hours run 7am to 2:30pm on weekdays and from 7:30am on weekends, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch operation that winds down mid-afternoon.

Getting there and parking

Hampden Road has limited, timed street parking, generally around the two-hour mark, so check the signage. If the kerb is full, try the side streets off Castray Esplanade or Princes Street, or walk up from the waterfront if you are already in the city.

Close by with the dogs

Princes Park is a very short walk for a leg stretch, and the historic Battery Point streets make an easy wander before or after coffee.
