Rendezvous Hobart Cafe holds a corner of Salamanca Square at Battery Point, a licensed bistro and wine bar doing all-day breakfast from 7:15am, lunch through to 4pm, and dinner on the weekend. The outdoor tables in the traffic-free square take dogs, which puts you in one of the best people-watching spots in Hobart with your dog under the table.

The dog setup

Dogs are restricted to the outdoor seating in the square; indoor dining is off-limits, as it is across the licensed venues here. Water bowls are often put out, and staff expect well-behaved, leashed dogs kept close to your chair. Saturday mornings are the busiest window by far, so pick an early or mid-afternoon slot if your dog prefers calm over crowds.

The vibe

The all-day breakfast is the draw: the bacon and egg focaccia with hollandaise, hashbrowns and the chicken parma get the recurring mentions, alongside carbonara and thick milkshakes. Service is fast and unpretentious, which suits the square's turnover of walkers, shoppers and market-goers.

Max: on Saturdays keep the lead short on the square itself. Dogs are welcome at the market but it is close-quarters walking past the stalls, and Mawson Place is restricted during events.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits at Shop 4, Salamanca Square. Street parking on Salamanca Place and Montpelier Retreat is limited and fills fast, so the Salamanca Square car park is the safer bet, especially Saturdays.

Close by with the dogs

Salamanca Lawns are next door for an on-lead stretch, Princes Park gives a cliffside walk over Sullivans Cove, and the waterfront down to Constitution Dock is an easy flat add-on. Around the square, Devils Kitchen Cafe, CC & Co Cafe and Ozus Coffee all take dogs too.
