Blaxland Riverside Park

Blaxland Riverside Park stretches along the tidal Parramatta River in Sydney Olympic Park, next door to Silverwater. Dogs are welcome, but on a lead and on the sealed paths only, so treat it as a riverside stroll rather than a run.

The rules

Sydney Olympic Park Authority requires dogs on lead at all times and keeps them to sealed pathways. Stay away from wetlands, water features and wildlife habitat.

Keep at least 10 metres from children's play spaces, and note that dogs are not allowed in the nearby Newington Armory grounds.

The walk

Wide grassy lawns open out beside the river, and the sealed shared paths are easy going the whole way. You will find water refill stations along the park's walking tracks and bins around the grounds.

Shade and parking

Picnic shelters and some trees give shade, but the open lawns get plenty of sun. There is parking at the park off Jamieson Street, some of it paid, and it fills quickly on weekends.

Max: The wetlands belong to the birds here. Keep the lead short wherever the path runs close to the water.

For an off-lead run, head to Deakin Park Fenced Dog Park, then refuel at The Commons Cafe.

When to go

Weekday mornings avoid the weekend car park rush. The flat sealed paths suit older dogs, but bring your own water on hot days when the lawns bake.
