Deakin Park Fenced Dog Park

Deakin Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-lead area on Deakin Street, Silverwater, split from the rest of the park by a stormwater canal. It has a reputation across western Sydney as an agility ground rather than just open grass, with tunnels, ramps and jumps for dogs that want more than a lap of the fence line.

The dog setup

City of Parramatta rules require dogs leashed at all times outside the fenced enclosure, including the playground side and car park, and under effective voice or hand control inside. You stay in the area and supervise; owners are responsible for judging whether their dog's temperament and play style suit a shared off-lead space with agility apparatus. Dangerous, menacing and restricted-breed dogs are prohibited from off-lead zones.

Max: the main gate is a single, non-latching entry right by a busy road, so keep a hand on the lead until you are properly inside and it closes behind you.

What is on site

Agility equipment including tunnels, ramps and jumps, water stations, poo bag dispensers, picnic shelters and benches near the dog area. A free, wheelchair-accessible car park sits at the entrance, and a newer playground across the canal covers the rest of the family. Low spots can hold water after heavy rain, so skip the visit if it has just poured.

Getting there and parking

Deakin Street sits just north of the M4 near the Silverwater Road junction, with the dedicated paved car park at the entrance. Bus stops on Parramatta Road and Silverwater Road are a short walk away.

When to go

Early mornings and late afternoons on weekdays draw the biggest crowds, and weekends stay busy most of the day. The park is large enough to spread out when full, but go carefully through that entrance gate at peak times with an excitable dog.
