Stonyfell Quarry Reserve on Penfold Road climbs into Adelaide's eastern foothills, where rocky outcrops and old quarrying remnants set the scene.
Lead rules
Keep dogs on lead. The City of Burnside does not name a signed off-lead area here, and nearby foothill reserves protect native wildlife and the Second Creek environment.
The walk
Expect natural earth, gravel and unsealed service tracks with some slope. Native trees give patches of shade, but exposed sections heat up.
Parking is mostly roadside along Penfold Road. Bins and water are limited on the reserve, so carry water and pack out waste.
Max: Loose gravel on the slopes can roll underfoot, so take the descents slowly.
Make a day of it
Taylor Blend cafe in Stonyfell is close for a coffee afterwards.
Cooler mornings suit this one best. It works well for fit dogs who enjoy varied ground.
