Catlin on Magill

Catlin on Magill is a small urban cellar door and wine bar on Magill Road in Adelaide's inner east, pouring Catlin Wines' cool-climate range in a relaxed space with retro decor, a pool table and an easy, no-fuss feel. Friendly leashed dogs are welcome to join you for a tasting, which is a rare thing for a wine bar this close to the city.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome with the outdoor seating the most reliable option in a compact room like this. It is a small, cosy venue, so book ahead on busy weekends and mention you are bringing a dog to confirm space. Bring your own water bowl and treats, since it is a wine bar first rather than a dedicated dog cafe. Keep your dog close by the table; the pool table and tight floor plan mean there is not much room to sprawl.

Worth knowing

The bar pours small-batch Adelaide Hills wines by the tasting flight, the glass or the bottle, alongside beer, bar snacks and light meals. Hours are limited: Friday 4pm to 10pm, Saturday 2pm to 6pm and Sunday 1pm to 6pm, closed Monday to Thursday, and hours can shift for private functions, so check the venue's site or socials before heading over.

Max: if you are heading on to Morialta afterwards, check the SA Parks rules first. Dogs are only permitted in specific areas there, not the whole reserve.

Getting there and parking

Catlin on Magill is at 563 Magill Road, a short drive up from the Adelaide CBD, with on-site parking at the back of the venue and extra space on Magill Road and the surrounding side streets. The O-Bahn side of the foothills makes it an easy stop on a circuit through the eastern suburbs.

Nearby dog-friendly stops make a loop of it: Daly Coffee Kick is a Magill coffee option, The Colonist on the Norwood strip welcomes dogs out front, and the Maylands Peninsular loop is a riverside leg-stretch a few minutes away.
