Ransome Reserve

Ransome Reserve is a patch of eucalypt bushland in Brisbane's quiet east, with dirt tracks under a high canopy of gums and melaleucas. Dogs are welcome on lead, and the shade makes it one of the cooler walks around.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council requires dogs to stay on lead here, as in its other unfenced bushland reserves. The reserve is habitat for local birds and wildlife, so keep your dog close to the track.

The walk

Tracks are natural dirt with some gravel, winding through open eucalypt forest. Some guides list the area as Ransome Nature Reserve.

It is a calm, uncrowded walk, with little traffic on the surrounding acreage streets.

Before you go

There are no dog water points on the tracks and bins are sparse, so bring water, a bowl and bags to carry out. Parking is informal, on the roadside or in small pull-offs near the reserve edges.

Max: Bush tracks mean wildlife close by. A short lead keeps the birds safe and your dog out of trouble.

Make a day of it

The neighbouring Tingalpa Creek Reserve offers more bushland walking, and Lota Dog Park is a spot for off-lead play.

When to go

The deep shade makes this a good pick on warmer days. It suits dogs that would rather sniff through the bush than sprint across a field.
