Pugh's Lagoon Walking Track

Pugh's Lagoon, inside Smith Park on Richmond's north-western edge, is an easy wetland stroll alive with waterbirds, and dogs must stay on lead the whole way.

Lead rules

Hawkesbury City Council requires dogs to be on lead at all times in the Smith Park and Pugh's Lagoon reserve. With ducks, swamphens and black swans roaming free, that rule matters.

The walk

The tracks follow grassy banks and natural earth paths around the lagoon, under mature trees. It is a relaxed, low-intensity walk close to the historic town centre.

Parking is on site near Smith Park, and bins are in the picnic areas. Dog water points are limited, so carry a bottle and bowl.

Max: Free-roaming waterbirds are everywhere here. Keep the lead short near the water's edge.

Make a day of it

The Alleyway Richmond is the nearby café stop, and Pool Park Fenced Dog Park in South Windsor gives your dog an off-lead run.

When to go

Cooler mornings suit this one, since the trees shade only parts of the precinct. It is a good pick for calm dogs and slow sniffers.
