Reserve 1118, known locally as Elara Dog Park, is a fully fenced off-leash park in the Elara estate at Marsden Park, open 24 hours a day with double-gated entry for secure arrivals and departures.

The rules. Dogs must stay under effective voice control even though the whole reserve is fenced. Pick up after your dog and use the bins provided. Declared dangerous or restricted breeds are not permitted on site.

What's there. The park is a single large open field rather than separate small-dog and big-dog zones, so it suits confident, sociable dogs best. There's a dog water fountain and bench seating for owners, but no poop bag dispensers and no public toilets, so bring your own bags and water bowl to be safe. There's no lighting at night either.

Getting there. The address is 15 Watkin Crescent, Marsden Park. Free on-street parking is available right outside the entrance, and it's realistically a drive-to spot as the estate isn't well served by public transport.

No night lighting means dusk visits get dark fast in winter. Time it for daylight hours if you want to actually see the gate latch.

Nearby with the dogs. The Marsden Park Home Hub, a short drive away, has several cafes with outdoor seating for a coffee after the run, including The Baristas' Shed.

When to go. Weekday mornings and midday are quietest; weekday evenings from 5pm to 7pm and weekend mornings from 8am to 11am draw the biggest crowds. Good for confident dogs that like an open run rather than a small, sheltered yard.
