Wanderest Travellers Park is a small, self-contained caravan park behind the Richmond Club on Francis Street in Richmond, on Sydney's northwestern edge, and it welcomes dogs on a leash across the whole property. For travellers with a dog and a self-contained rig, it solves two problems at once: an overnight base in the Hawkesbury and club dining, showers and shops all within a few minutes' walk. Book ahead, because the site count is small and it fills.

Dogs at the Wanderest Travellers Park

Dogs are allowed throughout the park provided they stay leashed and under your control, with no separate pet fee advertised. A handful of sites are fenced, which gives your dog room to move at camp without you holding the lead all stay. Noise needs to stay down, particularly late evening, and you cannot drive over or park on other guests' sites or the concrete slabs. Some listings vary on size limits and fees, so settle the pet fine print with the park directly when booking.

Max: a fenced site changes the whole stay. Ask for one when you book, and keep the lead on everywhere else.

The vibe

This is a working travellers' park, not a resort: bitumen and grassed sites, hot showers, a dump point and potable water on site, and rates regulars call reasonable. Tents and swags are not permitted, as it caters to self-contained caravans, campervans and big rigs, with stays typically capped at a few nights. The club next door handles meals and a comfortable chair in the evening.

Getting there and parking

The park sits on Francis Street behind the Richmond Club, an easy turn off the Windsor Road corridor and about an hour from the Sydney CBD. Bring your own hose and tap adapters for the water connection. Richmond's town centre, the railway station and the Hawkesbury riverfront are all close by, and Scheyville and Cattai national parks are short drives for leashed walking.
