Parkinson Bushland Reserve

Parkinson Bushland Reserve is a patch of native open forest in Parkinson, on Stretton's doorstep, and a wildlife corridor for koalas and gliders toward Karawatha Forest. Dogs are welcome, but Brisbane City Council requires them on a lead at all times, as it is protected bushland.

The walk

Tracks are a mix of sand, gravel and natural earth, rocky in places. The wider fire trails leave plenty of room to pass other walkers, and it tends to be quiet.

The eucalypt canopy gives good shade for most of the way, a real change from suburban footpaths.

Bring your own

There is no water for dogs along the internal tracks, so carry a bottle and bowl. Bins are only near the entry and perimeter, not out on the trails.

Parking is informal, on surrounding streets and at small pull-offs near the reserve boundary.

Max: This is koala and glider country. Keep the lead short and your dog on the track.

When to go

The shade makes it a reasonable choice on warm days, but carry plenty of water. Rough, unsealed tracks suit sure-footed dogs that enjoy a quiet bush walk more than a manicured park.
