O'Connell Park

O'Connell Park on Ocean Street in Runaway Bay is a neighbourhood park with a signed off-lead exercise area and freshly upgraded paths. The City of Gold Coast looks after it.

Leads and the off-lead area

Dogs must be on lead through the general park. Inside the designated off-lead area they can run under effective control.

Dogs are banned from the children's playground, so steer well clear of it.

What's here

Concrete footpaths from the recent council upgrade lead past new benches, open lawns and picnic shelters. There is a drinking fountain on site, plus toilets and barbecues.

Mature trees give shaded patches beside the big grass fields. There is no car park, so use street parking along Ocean Street.

Make a day of it

Ripples Cafe & Bar and Caffene Break Runaway Bay are both close by for a coffee.

When to go

It suits a quick off-lead run or a short stroll rather than a long walk. Head for the shaded patches on hot days, and keep clear of the playground when kids are on it.
