Hollywell Dog Park

Hollywell Dog Park is the local name for the fenced off-leash area at Bayview Park, on Bayview Street in Hollywell on the northern Gold Coast. It is a fully fenced, double-gated space with separate sections for small and large dogs, which makes it as workable for a nervous terrier as for a boisterous labrador.

The dog setup

Off-leash access applies inside the fenced enclosures only; dogs stay on lead in the unfenced sections of Bayview Park around them. A responsible person aged 17 or over supervises at all times, dogs should wear a collar with current registration tags, and picking up is required, with waste bags provided. Chasing or harassing wildlife is not permitted, and the children's playground within the park is off-limits to dogs.

The vibe

This is one of the better-equipped dog parks on the northern Gold Coast. Agility obstacles are set up in the main enclosure for dogs that like a challenge, there is a sealed perimeter path for an on-lead lap, and shaded trees, picnic shelters, tables and seating make it easy to linger. A drinking fountain and water stations with bowls are on hand, though there are no public toilets on site, which is worth knowing before a long session.

Max: Two pens means options. Start the small or timid dog in the secondary enclosure and move up once the room has been read.

Getting there and parking

The park fronts Bayview Street and the dog area is reached via Bayview Street or Hyacinth Avenue, with free on-street parking on both. Local Gold Coast bus routes run along Bayview Street if you are not driving.

When to go

Early mornings and the 4pm to 6pm window are the busy stretches, especially on weekends. Mid-morning or midday on a weekday is the quiet option for a shy dog or a training session.
