Murrumbeena Park

A boulevard of Canary Island palms, two sports ovals and two separate off-lead zones make Murrumbeena Park on Kangaroo Road a handy daily walk, once you learn the layout.

Leads and the off-lead area

Glen Eira City Council has set aside two off-lead areas here. One is the eastern sportsground with the open space to its north and east, and the other is the open space west of the playground along Kangaroo Road, minus the basketball area and picnic shelter.

The western sportsground, the playground and the path linking to Gerald Street are on lead. Dogs also need a lead within 20 metres of barbecues, picnic spots and playgrounds.

The walk

A looping gravel path circles the park past the ovals, mature trees and the regional playground. It is popular with local dog owners, so expect company.

Water and shade

Water taps with dog bowls sit near the playground and by the northern cricket nets, with bins close by. Mature trees give pockets of shade, and street parking runs along Kangaroo Road.

Pair it with

Boyd Park Dog Off Leash Area is another local option, and Cafe Omnia is nearby for a coffee.

When to go

It works best as a regular neighbourhood loop for dogs that enjoy a social run. Keep the lead handy around the playground end, where the on-lead zones cluster.
