Boyd Park Dog Off Leash Area

Boyd Park is a long linear reserve running through Murrumbeena between Gilsland Road and Neerim Road, with a leashed middle section around the playground splitting two off-leash stretches. It is unfenced and bordered by residential streets, so it suits dogs with reliable recall more than nervous escapers, but the length of open grass and shaded path makes it one of the better zoomie options in Glen Eira.

The dog setup

Off-leash covers the northern stretch from Gilsland Road to Dandenong Road and the southern stretch from Lawrance Street to Neerim Road, both available around the clock. The middle section around the playground is on-lead only, and dogs must also be leashed within about 20 metres of playground, barbecue and picnic areas, and during park maintenance work. Dogs never go inside the fenced playground. Under Glen Eira rules you carry a leash at all times, keep the dog under effective control and return it immediately when called. Boundaries are reviewed from time to time, so confirm the current zoning on council's site before you go.

Max: keep the recall sharp even inside the off-leash stretches. The park runs hard up against back fences and the Neerim Road end has traffic right there.

The vibe

Weekday mornings from about 6.30am to 8.30am and weekend mornings are the popular windows, when the local regulars cycle through. The path is lined with mature trees for shade, benches dot the length, and amenities are deliberately modest: no dog wash and no reliable bag dispenser, so pack your own bags and a water bowl.

Getting there and parking

The park is reached from Neerim Road, with easy residential parking on the surrounding streets. Murrumbeena and Hughesdale stations on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines are both a short walk away, and buses run along Neerim Road and Dandenong Road.

Close by with the dogs

Cafe Omnia is the easy coffee stop before or after a walk, and if your dog needs a fully fenced run, Pawfield Park in Caulfield East and Packer Park in Carnegie are both close by.
