Boyd Park Dog Off Leash Area

Boyd Park is a long, linear off-leash reserve running through Murrumbeena between Gilsland Road and Neerim Road, split by a leashed middle section around the playground. It is unfenced and borders residential streets, so it suits confident dogs with solid recall more than nervous escape artists, but the sheer length of open grass and shaded path makes it one of the better zoomie spots in the area.

The rules. Off-leash areas cover the northern stretch, from Gilsland Road to Dandenong Road, and the southern stretch, from Lawrance Street to Neerim Road, both available 24 hours a day. The middle section, around the playground, is on-leash only, and dogs must also be leashed within about 20 metres of the playground, barbecues and picnic areas, and during any park maintenance work. Dogs are not permitted inside the fenced playground itself. Confirm current boundaries and hours on the Glen Eira City Council site before you go, as off-leash zoning can be reviewed.

What's there. A long walking path runs the length of the park with open grass either side, some park benches, and leafy tree cover for shade. Amenities are modest, there is no dedicated dog wash or reliable bag dispenser, so pack your own waste bags and a water bowl.

Getting there. The park runs off Neerim Road, Murrumbeena, with easy residential parking on the surrounding streets. Both Murrumbeena and Hughesdale stations, on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines, are a short walk from the park, and bus routes run along Neerim Road and Dandenong Road.

Nearby with the dogs. Cafe Omnia is an easy stop for coffee before or after a walk.

Weekday mornings from around 6.30am to 8.30am and weekend mornings are the busiest, sociable stretches. If your dog prefers a quieter walk, late morning or early afternoon on a weekday is the better window.
