Giwadha Track, Chermside Hills Reserve

For a real bush walk without leaving Brisbane, the Giwadha Track in Chermside Hills Reserve, McDowall, climbs from Little Cabbage Tree Creek up to Spider Hill. Dogs are welcome on a lead the whole way.

The walk

This is a natural earth track, dirt underfoot and uneven in places, with a short timber boardwalk near the gully. It winds through open eucalypt forest and thick scrub beside the creek.

The payoff is at the top, where Spider Hill opens up wide views over the surrounding hills and suburbs.

Lead rules

Brisbane City Council manages the reserve, and dogs must stay on a lead at all times.

Max: Rough ground and a climb. Take it steady and watch where paws land on the uneven bits.

Nearby in Bridgeman Downs, Keeper Coffee is a handy stop. The Coolabah Crescent Park Dog Off Leash Area gives your dog a free run afterwards.

Who it suits

Fit dogs rather than older ones, given the climb and the rough surface. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water for the dog.
