Manly Lagoon to North Steyne Beach Walk

Start at Manly Lagoon with an off-leash run, then finish with an on-lead stroll along the North Steyne beachfront. The walk links Lagoon Park in Manly with the promenade past Queenscliff, all under Northern Beaches Council rules.

Leads and the off-lead area

Lagoon Park is a 24-hour off-leash area, and dogs can get into the calm lagoon water there. Once you head south onto the path toward Queenscliff and North Steyne, the lead goes back on.

Dogs are not allowed on the North Steyne ocean sand or in the rockpools. They can walk on lead on the reserve and walkway beside the beach.

The walk

It is paved the whole way, a mix of concrete and asphalt shared paths and a promenade you share with bikes and prams. The view shifts from the green lagoon to the surf at Queenscliff, then the long open sweep of North Steyne.

Water bubblers with low dog bowls sit along the beachfront, mostly near the surf clubs and amenities blocks. Bins for dog waste are easy to find.

Max: Bikes use this path too. Keep the lead short on the promenade, and remember the sand is off limits even when it looks empty.

When to go

Lagoon Park has shady trees, but the beachfront path has almost none, so go early on hot days. Parking around the lagoon and along North Steyne fills fast on weekends, which is another reason for an early start.

It suits dogs that like a run first and a calm walk after.
