Loves Bay via Kiama Blowholes

Loves Bay via the Kiama Blowholes is a 12.2 km out-and-back along the mid section of the Kiama Coast Walk, running from Kiama Blowhole down to Loves Bay and back again. It is rated moderate, takes most walkers around two and a half to three hours, and rewards the effort with sea eagle sightings and open ocean views the whole way.

The walk. One-way it is roughly 6 km, so plan for the full 12.2 km return unless you arrange a pickup. The surface mixes sealed path, grassy headland and stretches of beach walking, passing Surf Beach, Kendalls Beach, Easts Beach and the Little Blowhole before Loves Bay comes into view. It is a return trip, not a loop, so you will see everything twice.

The rules. Kiama Municipal Council manages this section of the coast walk, and dogs must stay on-lead along the coastal path for the whole route. Some beaches along the way restrict dogs during peak-usage hours, and parts of the walk cross private farmland, so keep to the marked track. Separately, patrolled beaches such as Surf Beach are off-limits to dogs during patrol season, October to April. There are off-leash areas elsewhere on the broader Kiama Coast Walk, at Bombo Beach Reserve, Marsden Headland and Kaleula Head Reserve, but none of them fall on this Blowhole-to-Loves-Bay stretch.

Water. Water stations and toilets are available at some of the beaches along the route, though not continuously, so carry a bowl for the longer stretches between them.

Getting there. Large free parking is available at Blowhole Point Road, right at the start of the walk. Kiama train station is only a short walk from the Blowhole, so it is easy to arrive without a car.

Nearby with the dogs. Surf Beach Holiday Park sits right along the route if you want to base yourselves nearby, and Diggies Kiama is a solid stop for coffee before or after the walk.

Go early morning on a cooler day if you can, both for the light over the water and to beat the crowds near the Blowhole car park. Good for big runners after a long stretch, and for anyone who wants ocean views without needing to plan a swim.
