Flinders Fenced Dog Park

Flinders Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off lead space on Sophia Street in Flinders, in the Shellharbour City area on the NSW South Coast. If you want a roomy enclosed paddock where a dog can run flat out without the boundary being a worry, this is exactly the setup.

The dog setup

The whole fenced area is off lead, so the fence line is the only boundary that matters. It is one shared mixed space with no separate small dog section, which is worth knowing if your dog prefers a quieter crowd. Surface is grass with some mounds, and there are benches and scattered trees, though shade is partial rather than generous. Water supply is not something to count on, so carry your own, particularly in summer. Waste bags and bins are provided, and council rules still require effective control, a leash on hand and a reliable recall even inside the fence.

Worth knowing

The park sits close to the Princes Motorway and the traffic noise is constant. Most dogs tune it out within minutes, but sound sensitive dogs may never settle, so listen from the car park before you commit. Check the gates close properly behind you on the way in and out; with a highway next door you want no escapes testing that.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Sophia Street, which runs off Brunderee Road, and street parking lines the reserve. The park is open around the clock. Shellharbour Junction station is the nearest rail option but it is a drive or a long walk away, so most visitors arrive by car.

Make a day of it

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the calm windows; weekend mornings and weekday evenings after work bring the regulars. Pair the run with coffee at Leaf Cafe and Co in Shell Cove, or a meal at The Tavern at the Links. On hot days the Flinders Dog Beach is close enough to make a two stop morning of it.
