Wilsons Walkway Mt Ommaney Bushland Reserve

Wilsons Walkway is a short dirt-and-gravel trail through Mt Ommaney Bushland Reserve, tracing the Brisbane River between residential Jindalee and the wider reserve. It is a quick leashed leg-stretch with proper river views and native birdlife, and a listed pick among Brisbane City Council's dog-friendly walking trails.

Leash status

Dogs stay on lead for the full walkway. The trail runs through a protected bushland area and a Habitat Brisbane site, so keep your dog on the formed path to protect the local flora and nesting birds, and make sure council registration is current. Waste bins sit at both ends of the walkway, but carry your own bags regardless.

The walk

An out-and-back of roughly 1 to 1.5km, taking 30 to 45 minutes round trip at a dog-friendly pace. The surface is dirt and gravel with some steep sections, and the track narrows and turns muddy after rain. Benches dot the route, and the riverside stretches give the best views and birdwatching. This is a short, scenic outing rather than a big-distance hike.

Getting there and parking

Access points sit around Mount Ommaney Drive in Jindalee, reachable via the Centenary Highway and local streets, with informal gravel parking near the trail entrances. Translink buses serve the Jindalee and Mount Ommaney area. Public toilets are available nearby at Summit Place, and a water bubbler with dog bowls is sometimes on hand near the trailhead, though do not rely on it.

When to go and what is nearby

Weekday mid-mornings or early weekend mornings are best, before the heat builds and while the tight parking is still easy.
