Huskisson to Vincentia Shared Path

The Huskisson to Vincentia Shared Path, known locally as the Round the Bay walk, runs 11.6 km along the edge of Jervis Bay in the Shoalhaven. It is fully paved and flat with dogs on lead the whole way, and the southern end has a hard stop: Booderee National Park bans dogs completely, so do not follow the path into it.

Leash status

Dogs stay on lead on the shared path, and Shoalhaven City Council lists the Collingwood cycleway section as on-leash specifically. Off-lead time sits beside the path rather than on it: the Collingwood Beach foreshore reserve from the northern end of Ilfracombe Avenue to the boat ramp at the end of Holden Street is off-leash, though the cycleway through it is not.

Nelsons Beach and Huskisson Beach between Nowra Street and Tapalla Avenue are timed, off-leash 4pm to 8am from 1 October to 30 April and 3pm to 10am from 1 May to 30 September.

The walk

Allow two and a half to three hours for the full 11.6 km, with the moderate rating coming from distance rather than grade. The wide paved surface suits prams, wheelchairs and bikes, and shorter return legs of roughly 5.7 to 10 km are easy to build from the car parks along the way.

You pass the Moona Moona Creek bridge, White Sands Park and Plantation Point, with the white sand of Huskisson, Collingwood and Orion beaches alongside. Low tide opens much more sand to walk on, and the calm, shallow bay gives a timed off-leash beach visit a real swim rather than a paddle.

Max: treat the southern end as a hard stop. Nothing fences off the national park boundary, so know your turnaround point before you set off rather than working it out on the day.

Getting there and parking

Park at White Sands Park on Bowen Street in Huskisson, at Moona Moona Creek, or at Plantation Point in Vincentia, all with public toilets and drinking fountains. Start at White Sands and head south or at Plantation Point Parade and head north, and bike hire is available in the Huskisson town centre.

While you're out there

Harley's @ Husky and Portside Cafe are the obvious post-walk stops in Huskisson, and Holiday Haven Huskisson Beach plus SALT Beach House in Vincentia sit close to the path for an overnight.

Clifton Park Fenced Dog Park at Sanctuary Point adds a fenced off-lead run with no tide times to check.
