Hurstville Oval

Hurstville Oval sits on Dora Street in Hurstville, just over the Penshurst border, and its big draw for dog owners is a fully fenced off-leash park right beside it.

Leads and the off-lead area

Georges River Council runs the oval and the surrounding Hurstville Park. Dogs stay on a lead on the paths and in the park, and must keep 10 metres from playgrounds and barbecues.

The fenced dog park on the corner of Patrick and Gordon Streets is where they can run free.

The walk

A flat circuit of paved and grassed edges loops past open turf fields, tall established trees and the old velodrome. Trees give patchy shade, with more cover near the grandstand.

Taps are around the grandstand and pavilion, and bins sit at the entries. Bring a bowl on warm days.

Penshurst Park is another walk nearby, and South Pour Sydney in Penshurst handles the coffee.

Street parking is free but fills during weekend cricket and other scheduled matches, so weekday mornings are easiest. The flat circuit suits older dogs.
