Arrowsmith Park

Arrowsmith Park is a designated off-leash dog park in Penshurst, on the corner of Woniora Road and King Georges Road within the Georges River Council area. It is an open, unfenced off-leash space close to busy roads and a rail line, so it rewards dogs with solid recall and owners who stay engaged.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash within the designated area of the park, part of council's network of off-leash dog parks. Because there is no fence, effective control and supervision are the load-bearing rules: clean up after your dog, keep restricted breeds off the off-leash area entirely, and know that non-compliance can attract fines under the Companion Animals Act 1998.

The park itself offers open green space for running, mature trees for shade and basic seating. There is no dedicated dog water station reported, so bring your own bowl and water, and note that one end of the park has a noticeable slope that adds variety to a fetch session.

Max: unfenced, near a main road and the trains, so this one is for dogs who come back the first time they are called. Mine does. Eventually.

Worth knowing

The rating among locals is honest about the trade: a rare off-leash patch in a built-up suburb, in exchange for boundaries that rely on training rather than mesh. If your dog is nervous or a flight risk, treat this as an on-lead park and save the off-lead time for a fenced venue.

Getting there and parking

On-site parking is limited, so expect to park on nearby side streets. Penshurst railway station is a short walk away, and buses along King Georges Road and Forest Road stop close by.

Regulars tend to arrive early, partly for the quiet and partly because the tree shade is best before midday. Weekend mornings see the playgroup crowd, and the slope at the southern end is where the ball games happen once the flat ground fills up.

Close by with the dogs

For a post-run coffee, South Pour Sydney on Penshurst Street keeps alfresco tables where dogs are welcome, and Tidz Across The Park at Oatley is the option if you drift toward the water side of the council area.
