Karkarook Park

Karkarook Park is in Heatherton, near Moorabbin, and circles a 15 hectare lake. You can pair a walk on lead with a separate off-lead area by the car park.

Leads and the off-lead area

Parks Victoria manages the park. Dogs stay on a lead on the lake trail and main paths.

The dedicated off-lead area is on the opposite side of the car park, away from the lake circuit.

The walk

The loop around the lake is flat, on smooth sealed paths and compacted gravel. It passes wetlands, revegetated bush and plenty of waterbirds.

Water and shade

Bubblers are on site, but bring a bottle for the dog as well. Bins are limited, so take your bags home.

The shade is mostly near the information centre and wetlands, and the lake trail is exposed. Car parks are along the south side.

Max: Waterbirds everywhere and an open lake. Keep the lead short on the circuit and save the running for the off-lead area.

Avoid the middle of a hot day. The flat paths suit older dogs.
