Murrup Gurrong Yan

Murrup Gurrong Yan, also called the Spiritual Creek Walk, is a flat 2.5 kilometre circuit in Woodlands Historic Park near Greenvale. It follows Moonee Ponds Creek under old river red gums, and dogs are allowed on lead.

Lead rules

Parks Victoria requires dogs on a lead at all times in the park. They are not allowed in the Eastern Barred Bandicoot Sanctuary, so keep to the signed walking tracks.

The walk

The track is unsealed dirt and gravel across grassy plains and through heavy red gum shade. Interpretive signs along the way explain the area's Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Birdlife is busy along the creek, and the plains open out between the trees.

Getting started

Park at the Somerton Road picnic area, which has toilets and drinking water, or at the Providence Access Road entry. Bins are scarce, so plan to carry everything out, and take water for the dog.

Max: Kangaroos are common on this circuit. Keep the lead short and watch for them in the long grass.

Make a day of it

For off-lead time after the walk, Bulla Recreation Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is close by.

With deep shade and a level track, it is a good choice for older dogs and warm mornings.
