Edgars Creek Trail

Edgars Creek Trail follows a recovering urban creek through Thomastown and on into Lalor, with native plantings and birdlife along the way. Dogs are welcome, on lead on the shared path.

Lead rules

The City of Whittlesea requires dogs to be on lead on shared paths and open spaces. The only exception is a signed, designated off-leash dog park.

The walk

Most of the trail is smooth concrete, with some gravel sections as it threads through the creek corridor. It passes grassy reserves between residential streets.

Mature trees and new council landscaping shade parts of the path, but some stretches run open beside the reserves.

Getting started

Thomas Street Recreation Reserve is an easy access point, with street parking and bays close by. Drinking fountains appear near some upgraded trailheads and pavilions, so carry water for longer walks.

Max: This is a shared path, so keep the lead short when cyclists and runners come through.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run, J.C. Donath Reserve Dog Off Leash Area in Reservoir is close by, and ROUTE 21 in Thomastown is handy for a coffee.

When to go

The smooth, pram-friendly surface suits older dogs and daily walks. On hot days, go early and favour the shaded sections.
